Boom Lift Training

Course Description

This course provides classroom theory and hands-on practical training for boom lifts. Training may be completed at our facility or on site at your workplace.


The program covers boom lift regulations, operator responsibilities, equipment fundamentals, inspection requirements, and safe operating principles, with practical training and evaluation conducted on boom lifts.

Upon successful completion, participants will be authorized to operate boom lifts within British Columbia, in accordance with applicable regulations, industry standards, manufacturer instructions, and employer requirements.


Certification is valid for three years and must be renewed upon expiry or as required by the employer.

Course Outline

 

         Theory

  • Regulations, rules, and operator responsibilities 
  • MEWP classifications with focus on boom lifts
  • Main components, controls, and functions
  • Capacity ratings, platform limitations, and load charts
  • Stability principles and safe positioning
  • Safe operating procedures and common hazards
  • Pre-use inspection requirements (equipment, worksite, and PPE)
  • Theory evaluation
     

         Practical

  • Pre-use inspection procedures (equipment, worksite, and operational checks)
  • One-on-one hands-on training
  • Controlled driving and maneuvering around obstacles
  • Raising and lowering the work platform
  • Extending, retracting, and slewing the boom
  • Working within platform capacity and maintaining safe clearances
  • Emergency ground control and emergency lowering procedures
  • Shutdown and refueling or recharging procedures
  • Practical evaluation
     

       Completion

  • Certificate issued upon successful completion
  • Certification valid for three years
