Fall Protection (6.5-Hour Course)

Course Description

This course provides fall protection training consisting of classroom-based theory and hands-on practical instruction, aligned with WorkSafeBC OHSR Part 11, applicable CSA Z259 standards, and recognized industry best practices.


The program focuses on fall hazard recognition, regulatory requirements, system selection, equipment use and inspection, ladder safety, and basic rescue awareness. Training is designed to support an employer’s fall protection program and must be applied in conjunction with site-specific procedures and supervision.


Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Fall Protection certificate, valid for three years or as otherwise required by the employer.

Course Outline

 

         Theory

  • Regulations, rules, and responsibilities (WorkSafeBC OHSR Part 11)
  • Fall hazard identification and risk assessment
  • Hierarchy of fall protection controls
  • Fall restraint, fall arrest, positioning, and passive systems
  • System components, compatibility, and limitations
  • Clearance requirements and swing fall considerations
  • Fall protection equipment overview and inspection requirements
  • Written fall protection and rescue plan requirements
  • Theory evaluation
     

         Practical

  • Fall protection equipment inspection procedures
  • Proper ladder selection, setup, and use
  • Donning and fitting a full-body harness
  • Partner checks and verification procedures
  • Connecting to anchors and fall protection systems
  • Case study discussion and scenario-based exercises
  • Practical participation and competency evaluation
     

      Completion

  • Certificate issued upon successful completion
  • Certification valid for three years
